Overview

The Healthcare Association of Hawaii is pleased to host our annual Joint Commission Resources (JCR) Conference!

The Joint Commission (TJC) accredits and certifies nearly 21,000 healthcare organizations and programs in the United States. Joint Commission accreditation and certification is recognized nationwide as a symbol of quality that reflects an organization’s commitment to meeting certain performance standards.

The mission of Joint Commission Resources is to continuously improve the safety and quality of healthcare in the United States and in the international community through the provision of education, publications, consultation, and evaluation services. Their services assist in preparing accredited providers for survey.

Dr. Candace Eden has been an RN for 40+ years with a total of 28 years of leadership experience with the last 13 at an Executive level in Quality, Risk and Patient Safety. She has worked in a tertiary care setting, Foundation health plan and medical group setting (Kaiser-Permanente), community hospital setting, with ambulatory clinics and physician practices, opened a new observation unit (OH), and opened a new pediatric hospital in Orlando (Nemours). She has her Doctorate in Executive Nursing Practice and has obtained certifications in Nursing leadership, Quality, Patient Safety and Risk Management.

  • Active licensed RN with 40+ years of experience; (licensed in FL & GA).

  • Clinical Expertise: emergency, trauma, cardiology, open-heart. Worked in trauma center, tertiary care centers, community hospitals, ambulatory care sites, patient experience provider, and opened free-standing new pediatric hospital.

  • Nursing, Quality & Patient Safety Executive Leadership positions last 13 years.

  • Nurse manager/opened cardiac observation unit; with pre-cath, post-cath and observation patient population. Licensed Risk Manager since 1997, director roles in quality & patient safety for 15 years, executive role as patient experience clinical consultant for HCAPHS scores.

Mr. Edward Browne has over 35 years as a healthcare engineer and manager. He has managed facility, safety, security, support service, and clinical departments in a wide variety of healthcare settings – from community hospitals to regional healthcare systems to tertiary teaching institutions including long term and chronic disease. Mr. Browne’s specialties also include environment of care, life safety, construction, emergency preparedness, hazardous materials management, security, food services, environmental services, and real estate.

Mr. Browne has worked nationwide as an environment of care consultant in diverse situations including mental health and pediatric facilities. He has implemented best practices, bringing his expertise to help facilities work through specific problems and has published numerous articles in several national publications on topics specific to our industry.

Jeannell Mansur, PharmD, RPh, CJCP, FSMSO

Dr. Jeannell Mansur is Principal Consultant for Medication Management and Safety for Joint Commission Resources and Joint Commission International. In this role, she provides direction to hospital leaders on medication safety design, medication system optimization and technology implementation to support patient safety and effectiveness. Her expertise in lean six sigma and change acceleration performance improvement methods and tools is of immense value to organizations that are seeking to implement effective and sustainable improvement to challenging issues. In her role as Principal Consultant, Dr. Mansur provides expertise to the Joint Commission enterprise on medication system themes. She has been recognized for her distinguished work by the designation of Fellow with the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists and the American Society for Medication Safety Officers. She is a voting member of the United States Pharmacopeial (USP) Convention.

Dr. Mansur has consulted throughout the US and internationally in Europe, Asia, Africa, Central, and South America, the Far East, and the Middle East. She has published and presented extensively in the areas of medication safety and pharmacy operations improvement. Among these publications is the chapter she authored on Medication Safety in “Pediatric Safety in the Emergency Department”, a textbook published jointly by Joint Commission Resources and the American Academy of Pediatrics, an article “Medication Systems and the Important Role of Pharmacists”, published in 2016 in Journal of Drugs and Aging, and the chapter she authored “Immediate-Use Compounding” in the recently published “Compounding Sterile Preparations, Fourth Edition”, published by the American Society of Health-system Pharmacists.

Continuing Education Credits

This program on November 30, 2023 – December 1, 2023 will award 13.0 Continuing Education contact hours for the following: ACCME, ANCC, ACHE, & ACPE.

Full attendance at every session, on both days, and completion of a post-engagement survey are prerequisites for receiving continuing education credits.

In support of improving patient care, this activity has been planned and implemented by the Healthcare Association of Hawaii and Joint Commission Resources.  Joint Commission Resources is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team. 

The Joint Commission is authorized to award the listed hours of pre-approved ACHE Qualified Education credit for this program toward advancement or recertification in the American College of Healthcare Executives.  Participants in this program who wish to have the continuing education hours applied toward ACHE Qualified Education credit must self-report their participation. To self-report, participants should log into their MyACHE account and select ACHE Qualified Education Credit.


Location

This conference will be held at the Ala Moana Hotel located at 410 Atkinson Dr. in Honolulu, HI, 96814. The training will be in the Hibiscus Ballroom I, on the 2nd floor above the lobby.

Parking validation (10 hours) for self-parking in the hotel parking garage will be provided. Please note valet parking is not covered. It is the responsibility of the individual and costs $35 per vehicle.

Refreshments will include the following:

  • Continental breakfast inclusive of coffee, tea and juice

  • Coffee and tea at the morning break

  • Buffet-style lunch

  • Snack and beverages at the afternoon break

Registration includes access to the conference, associated presentation materials, continental breakfast, lunch and refreshments, 10-hour validated self-parking in the Ala Moana Hotel’s parking garage, and the ability to download/print your CE certificate upon completion of the requirements. Attendance at all sessions on both days is a requirement to receive a CE certificate.

The following rates are per individual. Split registrations are not accepted. Registration is not final until payment has been received.
