Course Description

Healthcare providers face unprecedented stress and challenges in the COVID-19 era. These challenges are not just limited to the professional domain, but pervade every area life from relationships to health. As healthcare professionals, we need to create a new normal and make meaningful changes that will improve our experience and give us sustainability and resiliency through these challenging times.

Join us as Dr. Ryan Bayley, executive coach for healthcare leaders, shares coaching paradigms to help you reflect on your personal and professional circumstances, identify what is in your control, and take meaningful action to positively impact your unique situation.

Those attending the series will:

  • Recognize the impact of chronic stressors and how to proactively disrupt negative cognitive impacts and pivot toward taking more valued actions

  • Explore how to cultivate positive affect despite stressors to improve both personal and professional experience

  • Identify techniques for leveraging personal strengths for practical challenge solving

  • Develop an action plan for professional resilience moving through the next year

Ryan Bayley, MD

Ryan Bayley, MD is an executive coach for physicians and healthcare leaders. His work primarily focuses on helping healthcare providers create more fulfillment and resilience in their work – with an emphasis on intentional career design, emotional intelligence, and inter-personal skills. He is also a recognized national speaker on physician career development and professional well-being.

In addition to his coaching and consulting, Ryan Bayley holds an adjunct faculty position in the department of surgery at Duke University, and he is the designer and lead instructor for Duke University’s Intentional Life Design for Physicians course. Dr. Bayley continues to practice as both an emergency physician and an emergency medical services director for 911 systems.

 
 

Webinar Details


Part 1 – What is the Real Challenge?
August 12, 2020 from 10:00 – 11:00 am HST

We’ll start off this series with identification of the real challenge in front of us and work on skills to proactively create a new normal for ourselves.

Participants will review the following:

  1. Normalization of the challenges we face personally and professionally under COVID-19

  2. Recognize the need to craft a new normal and the trap of “thinking about the problem”

  3. Explore tools to break the cycle of overwhelm and become more effective in how we approach our current situation

  4. Take the first step of building a new normal by focusing on the self


Part 2 – The Big Rocks: Who and What is Truly Important?
September 9, 2020 from 10:00 – 11:00 am HST

Every provider’s experience with COVID is different, as are the challenges faced both professionally and personally. Instead of cookie-cutter solutions, Dr. Bayley will share coaching tools to guide participants of this session in creating a personalized model, helping individuals develop an action plan to implement for meaningful changes.

Participants will:

  1. Create a personalized understanding of specific life areas participants can focus on for the greatest improvement in fulfillment and happiness right now

  2. Explore the PERMA model of well-being and other related evidence-based tools that can be used to generate specific actions for greater vitality

  3. Recognize the importance of rails and mini-habits for creating real change


Part 3 – Our Best Selves
October 14, 2020 from 10:00 – 11:00 am HST

In this final session, we will deepen our understanding of how we can bring our best selves to our challenges.

Participants will:

  1. Identify what values and strengths are from a coaching perspective

  2. Discuss how to leverage one’s own values and strengths to resolve challenges

  3. Explore a vision of our best selves at work and at home as we move forward in the next 1-2 years

Continuing Education Credits

Valid for the live webinars only: This program is approved by the National Association of Social Workers – Hawai’i Chapter (Approval HI62792021-102, HI62792021-103, HI62792021-104) for one (1) continuing education contact hour per webinar (up to three (3) contact hours for the entire series).

Valid for the live webinars and recorded webinars: This nursing continuing professional development activity was approved by Oregon Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation for one (1) contact hour per webinar session (up to three (3) contact hours for entire series).
