AHCA/NCAL Quality & Regulatory Virtual Workshop
The Healthcare Association of Hawaii is pleased to host our 5th Annual American Health Care Association & National Center for Assisted Living (AHCA/NCAL) Quality & Regulatory Workshop!
This year’s workshop has been developed into four (4) virtual sessions, each one 2.5 hours in length, based on member request. We’ve got a great lineup for you, inclusive of topics relevant to Nursing Facilities and Assisted Living Facilities. We are happy to welcome seven (7) key national leaders in long term care who are ready and willing to share their expertise with you!
Registrants can earn up to ten (10) contact hours by participating in the entire workshop and completing the requirements. See below for details.
Target Audience
Nursing Facility and Assisted Living Facility leadership and staff, including Executive Directors, Administrators, Directors of Nursing, Quality Assurance RNs, Resident Care Managers, Nurse Managers, Social Services Personnel, HR Personnel, Department Heads, Corporate Staff and up and coming leaders.
VIRTUAL SESSIONS
All sessions are from 10:00 am - 12:30 pm HST
Each virtual session will include an opportunity for interaction and collaboration on relevant issues to our industry. Breakout rooms will be utilized to discuss issues and we encourage networking and the sharing of best practices.

How You Can Help Prevent the Spread of COVID-19
Learning Objectives:
1. Discuss high reliability practices to assure infection control practices
2. Recognize how Five Star measures changed due to COVID policies vs care practices
3. Plan for the new normal as the pandemic resides
THURSDAY, MARCH 11:
Strategies for Showcasing Value: Staff & Residents
Learning Objectives:
1. Describe a safe and supportive environment for staff
2. Explore stress management, tools and techniques to reduce stress
3. Outline the elements of a staff recognition program
4. Examine strategies to improve communication skills
5. Discuss a safe environment for residents
6. Explore a grief support plan for residents
7. Discuss implementation of a family interaction, visitation and communication program
TUESDAY, MARCH 16:
Survey & Regulatory Update: New Developments, Lessons Learned, and Looking Ahead
Learning Objectives:
1. Identify new developments in survey and enforcement as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic
2. Examine the impact of regulatory and survey/enforcement changes during the COVID-19 pandemic
3. Discuss the status of pending survey/regulatory initiatives
4. Explore survey/regulatory policy priorities and advocacy
Quality in All We Do: The Impact of QAPI and Survey
Learning Objectives:
1. Recognize the intersection between quality assurance (QA) and performance improvement (PI)
2. Identify how to use root cause analysis (RCA) in the QAPI process
3. Explore ways to apply QAPI and RCA in infection prevention and control examples
4. Explore how to use trends and the survey process to enhance QAPI culture

Caring for the Whole Person: Trauma Informed Care and Burnout

1. Describe what trauma is
2. Discuss the elements of trauma informed care
3. Explore a self-care plan to prevent burnout, promote resiliency, and manage trauma-related stress
Tracking Data in the New Normal

This nursing continuing professional development activity was approved by the Oregon Nurses Association, an accredited approver of the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation for 2.5 nursing contact hours per session (a total of 10 nursing contact hours for completion of all 4 sessions and meeting the corresponding requirements.) Participation in this workshop is limited to HAH and AHCA/NCAL members only.
Registration fees are $100 per person. Purchase of the AHCA/NCAL Quality & Regulatory Workshop includes access to all four (4) virtual sessions and corresponding materials.
