when Caring for a Family Member with Dementia
Understand the Mediation Process: how it works; the issues that can be addressed; from
differences among siblings regarding how to best care for a parent in various stages of
dementia, to when professional services and care are needed; who participates, including
when and how the person with dementia can participate; when mediation is appropriate; how
to access mediation.
Understand the Family Conferencing process: how it works, including how the focus is
centered on the needs and values of the person with dementia; the issues that can be
addressed, including information sharing among siblings, maintaining family support for the
person with dementia while social distancing during the pandemic, and more; who
participates, including the person with dementia, extended family, and friends; when a family
conference is appropriate; and, how to schedule a family conference.
