Overview
Incidents of workplace violence (WPV) are a reality in healthcare settings. It is an identified risk that must be addressed and plans put in place for mitigation and response. Join us as we explore the prevalence of WPV in healthcare and train on an active threat situation.
In the morning, we will focus on high awareness of the problem and how to effectively prepare and respond to WPV issues. We will explore:

In the afternoon, we will focus on the most severe form of WPV, an active threat involving an active shooter or active assailant. This training will provide a deep dive into appropriate planning and effective response for the workforce in a healthcare setting, using an identified response model. We will explore:

Target Audience: Healthcare staff across provider settings including executive leadership, senior directors, department heads, managers, safety officers, security personnel, risk managers, compliance staff, clinicians and nurse leaders, social services, and patient-facing service personnel.

Mr. Ed Howard possesses a combined experience of 40 years in law enforcement and private Security & Safety management. During Mr. Howard’s law enforcement career, he spent 22 years investigating and supervising criminal narcotics cases. During his time involved with narcotics investigative and enforcement work, Mr. Howard was deputized as a DEA Task Force Agent assigned to an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force for 10 years focusing on the epidemic problem of “ice” methamphetamine into the State of Hawaii from numerous international source countries and US Western states transportation routes into Hawaii.
After 26 years in law enforcement Mr. Howard retired and began a highly successful second career in Healthcare Security, Safety and Emergency Management for the next 15 years, upon being hired by Adventist Health in Hawaii as their Security and Safety Director. Mr. Howard was later promoted to a Vice President of Corporate Security Director position overseeing Adventist Health’s corporate security program. Mr. Howard’s corporate security responsibilities included oversight and management of the healthcare system's security program consisting of 24 hospitals in four US western states, with assets that included a workforce of 35,000 people, 310 clinics and outpatient centers and approximately 3,500 hospital beds.
In late 2020, Mr. Howard retired from his corporate security job and began working full time as the Owner and CEO of Pax Bello Security Solutions Hawaii, LLC, a professional security, safety and emergency planning consulting and training firm. Mr. Howard’s firm provides a variety of consulting and training services for all industries, specializing in healthcare, contract security, education, condominium and community associations.
Mr. Howard is a graduate of Hawaii Pacific University with a Bachelor of Arts in Justice Administration.
Continuing Education
To receive a CE certificate, each individual must register for the training, pay the registration fee, sign in and attend the event and complete the corresponding HAH evaluation.
